Storybowl DC is a cozy, communing of women living or vacationing in DC. It is an experiment. There is nothing to prepare or bring. But should you desire to bring something, bring an open heart.

Or a closed heart with a desire to:

- listen to another share her experience.
- laugh in uproarious laughter together.
- pass the tissues, and perhaps a hand squeeze.
- practice telling you truth.
- a desire to bear witness and be seen.

#StoryBOWLDC

“Everybody is a story. When I was a child, people sat around kitchen tables and told their stories. We don't do that so much anymore. Sitting around the table telling stories is not just a way of passing time. It is the way the wisdom gets passed along. The stuff that helps us to live a life worth remembering.”

- Rachel Naomi Remen

The Story:

StorybowlDC started as an experiment, born from hilarious "Get to Know You" questions at a bridal shower.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

The chooser of the prompt passed, face aflame as she silently recalled her moment, but the chick next to her was ready. She had a mortifying (drunken) experience in college, where she had been unable to control her bladder. Her story, complete with a back alley scene and an interruption by her lover,  had us roaring in laughter. Her risk, her vulnerability, and her ability to laugh at herself bonded us + opened the door for more sharing. More connection + a vibrancy of life.

That weekend prepped us to celebrate the wedding together and a magnificent celebration it was.

Celebration. Sharing. Bearing Witness.

Peals of laughter + howls of delight.

Since then, StorybowlDC has been a witness for stories from a devastating divorce to childhood dreams that want to be born again. This is a space of sharing. Of speaking our truth. Of bearing witness to one another and gaining wisdom from another's trials and successes. We need you. We need your story. You deserve to be seen.

The Details:
We'll start with a rooftop Happy Hour lightening round. You pick a prompt and tell us the first thing that comes to mind.

Then, we'll commune together in the dining room. Story prompts and questions will be in a bowl in the middle of the table.

This evening is intended to be spent in your comfort, sharing stories + connecting with other women living in their whole-hearted story. This group will have 8-20 women (because intimacy = juicy) with a waitlist(because we know, plans can change).

A GATHERING for WOMEN

Who is Jess?

I'm a storyteller, maven of possibility, and Desire Map facilitator + coach.

I believe that when women live in their joy, they lift up everyone around them. I specialize in helping women discover their joy by Desire Mapping. You and I create your inner compass (GPS for the soul!) to build a life that "feels good" to live. I facilitate intimate Desire Map workshops in-person and work with individuals in 1:1 coaching to use their Core Desired Feelings (GPS for the soul) to create a life they love.

When I started teaching elementary in my early 20s, there many nights I felt lost and alone. I'd go to Barnes and Noble seeking wisdom from the 'Self-Improvement' section. I always found what I needed but I was still unfulfilled in my day-to-day. I criss-crossed the country twice, out west and back again, searching for purpose, desperately seeking to feel good in my life. Figuring out how you want to feel and finding the power in your story opens up doors to your path. Come share your journey with us!
